Free travel for women in BMTC buses for International Women’s Day

Bengaluru: On International Women’s Day, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be providing free travel facility to all women passengers in its bus services in the city on March 8.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has approved a request to make travel free for women. BMTC president Nandiesh Reddy said.

According to latest report, nearly 10.21 lakh women travel in BMTC daily. The BMTC is estimating that over Twenty lakh women will travel using BMTC buses on Wednesday.

In an official statement on Tuesday, initiatives have been taken to provide safe and secure transport for women and promote public transport.

Greater use of public transportation by women will reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the city and improve public transportation in the city.
