The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and IIT-Kanpur, according to sources, are putting the finishing touches on the details, the report claimed.
The report noted that the telecom operators, whose data revenue is mostly driven by video use, will likely be opposed to the move because it will harm their 5G business case.

One of the officials spoke to ET on condition of anonymity and said, “We are investigating the viability and the final decision will be taken after meeting with all the stakeholders, including the telecom carriers.

The DoT, MIB, IIT-Kanpur, and representatives from the telecom and TV industries are anticipated to attend a meeting next week, according to the article.
