Fresh Encounter In Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir; Police Officers Hurt

Published on

NEW DELHI: On Thursday, security forces and terrorists clashed again in Kathua district, injuring one police officer, according to the Jammu & Kashmir Police.

The battle began on Thursday morning after security personnel detected terrorists near Jakhole hamlet in Ghati Juthana, Rajbagh. This area is around 30 kilometers from Hiranagar sector, where an incident occurred on Sunday. According to officials, additional forces were dispatched, and an exchange of fire was still going on when the final reports arrived.

The terrorists are thought to be from the same group that fled following a gunfight in Hiranagar on Sunday evening. That incident began when the police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) received information about the presence of terrorists inside a ‘dhok,’ or enclosure in a nursery in Sanyal village near the International Border. The shootout lasted more than half an hour before the attackers escaped.

Since then, police, the army, NSG, BSF, and CRPF have been conducting a massive search operation. To track down terrorists, security personnel have used surveillance technologies, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, bulletproof vehicles, and sniffer dogs.

Officials believe the group infiltrated on Saturday, perhaps through a ravine or a newly constructed tunnel along the border.

Forces boosted their search efforts, particularly along routes going to the Billawar forest, and eventually found the terrorists.
