Odisha: Cyclonic Circulation Develops Over Bay of Bengal, Heavy Rain Expected From April 08

Published on

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has developed over the central region of the south Bay of Bengal due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system, which formed at 8:30 am on Monday, is linked to a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above sea level.

The IMD predicts that the system will move northwestward over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8. After that, it is expected to shift northward over the west-central Bay of Bengal within the following 48 hours.

As per the IMD’s midday weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in the afternoon or evening at isolated locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangpur. Meanwhile, dry weather is expected to prevail across the rest of Odisha from April 8 to April 14.

Additionally, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 km/h. These conditions are expected to affect some areas in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar between April 9 and April 11.

Regarding temperature trends, the IMD forecasts no significant changes in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours. However, a drop of 2-3°C is expected across Odisha afterward. Some areas in Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Titlagarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, and Rourkela may experience maximum temperatures of 40°C or above.

Given the changing weather patterns, the IMD advises the public to stay updated with forecasts and take necessary precautions for safety.
