Pakistan Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize Over India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Published on

In a bold diplomatic move, Pakistan has officially nominated Donald Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, commending his “stellar statesmanship” in brokering a truce between India and Pakistan following one of their worst escalations in decades.

Trump’s Role in Avoiding Regional War

In May, cross-border shelling and airstrikes between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir region raised fears of full-scale war. According to Pakistan, it was Trump’s intervention that led to the May 8 ceasefire, halting days of deadly violence between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

“President Trump demonstrated strategic foresight and robust engagement at a moment of heightened regional turbulence,” Pakistan’s government said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement lauded his actions for averting a broader conflict that could have endangered millions of lives across South Asia.

While Islamabad credited Washington, New Delhi offered a different version, stating the ceasefire resulted from direct negotiations between India and Pakistan. Nonetheless, the outcome marked a significant de-escalation in Kashmir.

Trump, who has repeatedly framed himself as a global peacebroker, reacted to the nomination on his Truth Social platform, saying:

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan… no matter what I do.”

During his presidency, Trump also claimed credit for the Abraham Accords in the Middle East and has been vocal about his desire to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war and now the Israel-Iran conflict.

Nobel Process and Eligibility

The Nobel Peace Prize can be awarded to any living individual or active organization. Nominations are made by governments, lawmakers, academics, and previous laureates. The final decision lies with the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

This nomination comes as the Middle East teeters on the edge of expanded warfare. Israel’s strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, followed by Tehran’s drone and missile retaliation, have led to over 400 deaths in Iran and at least 24 in Israel, according to official sources.

Trump is reportedly weighing U.S. involvement, giving himself a two-week timeline before deciding whether to respond militarily.
