IMD Issues Weather Alert: Fishermen Advised Not to Venture Into Sea from June 29 to July 1

Published on

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a strict warning to fishermen and coastal communities along the Odisha coast, urging them not to venture into the sea from June 29 to July 1, 2025, due to rough weather conditions.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected to prevail along and off the Odisha coast during this period. Consequently, the sea conditions are likely to be rough to very rough, posing a significant threat to small boats and fishing trawlers.

Advisory for Fishermen:

  • Avoid venturing into the sea from June 29 to July 1.
  • Stay indoors and remain updated with IMD’s latest weather bulletins.
  • Coastal authorities have been alerted for preparedness and mitigation measures.

Weather System Update:

The warning comes as a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. The system is likely to move inland towards north Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh over the next couple of days.

Rainfall Forecast:

  • Widespread rainfall is expected across many parts of Odisha.
  • Heavy rainfall is particularly likely in northern Odisha and its neighbouring districts until July 2.
  • The IMD has also alerted disaster management authorities to be prepared for possible localized flooding or waterlogging.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain cautious and follow official updates on weather forecasts and emergency advisories.
