IAF Aircraft crashes in Rajasthan

Published on

Churu: A Jaguar trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Wednesday afternoon during a routine training mission near Bhanoda village in Churu district, Rajasthan. Tragically, both pilots on board lost their lives in the accident.

IAF Confirms Fatalities, No Civilian Damage

In an official statement, the IAF said, “An IAF Jaguar Trainer aircraft met with an accident during a routine training mission and crashed near Churu in Rajasthan. Both pilots sustained fatal injuries in the accident. No damage to civil property has been reported.”

The IAF expressed deep sorrow, stating, “IAF deeply regrets the loss of lives and stands firmly with the bereaved families in this time of grief.” A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

The aircraft reportedly crashed in an agricultural field around 1:25 PM, according to SHO Kamlesh of Rajaldesar police station.

Recent IAF Aircraft Crashes: A Worrying Pattern

This latest crash adds to a string of accidents involving IAF fighter jets in recent months:

  • April 2025: A two-seater Jaguar crashed shortly after takeoff from Jamnagar Airfield during a night mission. One pilot, Siddharth Yadav, died after ejecting; the second pilot survived with injuries.
  • March 2025: A fighter jet crashed in Panchkula, Haryana during a training sortie. The pilot ejected safely after maneuvering the aircraft away from populated areas.
  • February 2025: A twin-seater Mirage 2000 crashed near Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. Both pilots ejected safely.
  • November 2024: A MiG-29 crashed near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, due to a technical fault. The pilot safely ejected.

The repeated crashes have raised concerns over the safety and maintenance of ageing fighter jets, particularly the Jaguar and MiG series, many of which have been in service for decades. The IAF has continued to modernize its fleet, but the recent spate of incidents has highlighted the urgency for faster induction of newer aircraft and enhanced pilot safety protocols.
