GM University Assistant Professor Arrested for Alleged Sexual Exploitation of Student

Published on

Sambalpur: A 32-year-old Assistant Professor of GM University, Gopikant Suna, has been arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a 20-year-old student under the false pretext of marriage. The accused is associated with the Department of Education.

According to the police, the second-year BA-BEd student filed a formal complaint at Sambalpur Mahila Police Station on July 16 at around 2:36 PM. In her complaint, she alleged that Suna lured her into a physical relationship with the promise of marriage, which he later backed out from. The student further stated that the alleged abuse occurred at Suna’s government quarters located in the Professor Colony at Budharaja.

The student, currently residing in a rented accommodation at Angulalane, also claimed that the ongoing emotional trauma prompted her to come forward and seek legal help. Following her complaint, police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Suna was taken into custody and produced before the court soon after the FIR was lodged. The legal proceedings are now underway.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, GM University officials have not yet released any official statement regarding the incident.

This incident has sparked concern in academic circles and among students, with many urging the university to take appropriate action and ensure a safe environment for its students.
