Jagdeep Dhankhar resigns as Vice President, due to health reasons

New Delhi: In a surprising development, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar tendered his resignation on health grounds, effective immediately. The decision was communicated through a formal letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution of India.

“Need to Prioritise Health and Follow Medical Advice”

In his resignation letter, Dhankhar wrote:

“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately.”

He acknowledged the support and cooperation extended by the President and expressed deep gratitude for the cordial relationship they shared during his tenure.

Acknowledges PM Modi and the Council of Ministers

Dhankhar extended his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers, stating that their unwavering support had been “invaluable.”

“Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he wrote.

The outgoing Vice President expressed heartfelt thanks to the Members of Parliament, appreciating their “warmth, trust, and affection.” He said the experiences and insights gained while serving the country in this capacity would remain embedded in his memory.

Jagdeep Dhankhar noted that it was a “privilege” to witness and participate in India’s remarkable economic growth and development during his tenure.

“Serving in this transformative era of our nation’s history has been a true honour,” he remarked.
