The Odisha government has announced that Odisha Panchayat restructuring will be completed before the next panchayat polls, aiming to strengthen governance at the grassroots level. According to the state minister, the move is designed to enhance administrative efficiency, improve accessibility, and ensure the effective delivery of welfare schemes to rural communities.
In addition to panchayat reforms, the minister confirmed that block-level restructuring will be carried out and completed before the 2029 general elections. This phased approach is expected to make local governance more streamlined and responsive to people’s needs.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati has proposed additional measures to strengthen the panchayat system, underscoring the importance of robust local governance mechanisms. The restructuring is expected to bring government schemes closer to citizens, fostering greater transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
This initiative aligns with Odisha’s long-term vision for decentralisation and inclusive growth. By empowering rural communities through better administrative structures, the state aims to ensure that development benefits reach every household efficiently.
