IMD Issues Red Alert as Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a strong red colour warning for extremely heavy rainfall across several regions including Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra today. The alert comes as the met department predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall over Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat during the next 7 days.
According to IMD officials, local administrations in the affected states have been advised to take precautionary measures as intense rain activity may lead to waterlogging, flooding and disruption of transport.

In addition to the red alert areas, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places over Gujarat, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Kerala and Mahe today. The IMD red alert rainfall warning indicates that the expected rainfall may exceed 204.5 mm within 24 hours, posing a risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable regions.
Residents in the affected states are advised to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours
- Stay updated with local weather advisories
- Move to safer locations if staying in low-lying areas
Thunderstorms with Gusty Winds Likely in Several States
The weather agency has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the next couple of days. Such weather conditions may cause damage to crops and temporary structures, authorities have cautioned.
Citizens are urged to remain alert and follow safety instructions issued by state disaster management authorities as rainfall activity is likely to remain intense throughout the week.
