MNRE Launches ₹2.3 Crore Start-Up Challenge to Promote Rooftop Solar

Published on

In a major push towards clean energy innovation, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the Innovative Projects Start-Up Challenge. This first-of-its-kind initiative aims to accelerate transformative solutions in rooftop solar and distributed renewable energy across India.

Focus Areas: Four Pillars of the Challenge

The challenge calls upon startups and innovators across the country to submit breakthrough ideas that address four key focus areas:

  • Affordability
  • Resilience
  • Inclusivity
  • Environmental Sustainability

This initiative supports India’s commitment to creating an accessible, robust, and sustainable energy ecosystem for the future.

2.3 Crore Prize Pool Announced

Participants will compete for a total prize fund of ₹2.3 crore, including:

  • 1st Prize: ₹1 crore
  • 2nd Prize: ₹50 lakh
  • 3rd Prize: ₹30 lakh
  • 10 Consolation Prizes: ₹5 lakh each

These rewards are aimed at fueling the growth of early-stage startups working on impactful renewable energy solutions.

Beyond Funding: Incubation, Mentorship, and Pilots

In addition to cash prizes, winners will gain access to:

  • Incubation support through industry partners
  • Pilot implementation of their projects
  • Mentorship opportunities from leading experts and investors

This end-to-end support is designed to help startups scale their technologies and bring them to market efficiently.

The last date to apply is August 20, and all applications must be submitted through the Startup India website. Interested startups are encouraged to apply early to take full advantage of the challenge.

The challenge underscores the government’s commitment to building sustainable, decentralized renewable energy solutions, especially in the residential rooftop segment. By involving startups, MNRE aims to bridge innovation with implementation, aligning with India’s ambitious clean energy targets.
