New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari will introduce the eagerly anticipated Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP), On August 22.

This program represents a significant advancement in the Government’s mission to increase road safety in India by increasing the bar for motor vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes.

The aim of the initiative is to give automobile buyers a tool to compare the collision safety of the various motor vehicles on the market. Automobile manufacturers may voluntarily submit their vehicles for testing in accordance with Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197 under this program.

The car will receive star ratings for Adult Occupants (AOP) and Child Occupants (COP) based on how well it performed in the testing. These star ratings can be used by prospective car buyers to compare the safety features of several models and decide which one to buy.

The need for safer vehicles is anticipated to rise, prompting automakers to meet consumer demands. High safety standards will enable Indian automobiles to compete more successfully on the international market, boosting the country’s automakers’ ability to export their products. The program is anticipated to create a safety-conscious automobile industry in India.
