  • Executive Magistrate courts will function normally on May 27.

Bhubanaeswar: The Government of Odisha on Monday revised the holiday schedule for Eid-ul-Zuha, announcing that the festival holiday will now be observed on May 28 instead of May 27.

The change was notified through an official order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department Odisha, partially amending the earlier notification released on November 11, 2025.

Odisha Eid-ul-Zuha Holiday Revised

According to the revised notification:

  • All government offices across Odisha will remain closed on May 28
  • Executive Magistrate courts will also observe the holiday on May 28
  • Courts will remain operational on May 27

The notification was issued under the orders of the Governor.

The second-order effect of such last-minute holiday revisions often impacts administrative scheduling, court proceedings, public services and travel planning, particularly for citizens coordinating festival-related activities.

Why Eid-ul-Zuha Holiday Date Was Changed

Although the notification did not specify detailed reasons behind the revision, Eid-ul-Zuha dates are often adjusted based on moon sighting and religious calendar considerations.

State governments periodically revise public holiday schedules to align official observance dates with confirmed festival timings.

Eid-ul-Zuha, also known as Bakrid, is one of the major Islamic festivals observed across India and several other countries.

Government Offices to Follow Revised Schedule

The revised order means all state-run administrative offices and judicial establishments under Executive Magistrate jurisdiction will now remain functional on May 27 before observing closure the following day.

Officials have been instructed to follow the updated schedule issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

The change is expected to help avoid confusion regarding government functioning and official proceedings during the festival period.
