BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha traffic rule enforcement drive has been strengthened with the State Transport Authority (STA) introducing stricter measures against vehicles violating motor vehicle regulations. Under the revised policy, enforcement officials have been directed to seize vehicles operating without mandatory documents such as valid fitness certificates, insurance or permits.

The move is aimed at reducing road accidents by ensuring that only legally compliant and roadworthy vehicles operate on public roads. The government believes stricter enforcement will improve road safety while discouraging repeated violations.

Odisha Traffic Rule Enforcement Targets Repeat Offenders

According to the latest circular issued by the State Transport Authority, habitual offenders will now face stronger action than before. Instead of relying only on monetary penalties, enforcement teams have been authorised to seize vehicles found repeatedly violating transport regulations.

The Transport Department has also instructed officials to carry out regular inspections to identify vehicles operating without essential legal documents.

The new policy is intended to improve compliance with motor vehicle laws and increase accountability among vehicle owners and transport operators.

Officials Warned Against Lax Enforcement

The circular makes it clear that transport enforcement officials are also accountable for implementing the new directives.

Authorities have warned that officials who fail to conduct inspections or neglect enforcement duties may face disciplinary action. The government has emphasised that consistent enforcement is necessary to improve road safety standards across the state.

Private Bus Seized During Inspection in Bhubaneswar

The Transport Department has already begun implementing the revised enforcement policy.

On Tuesday, officials seized a private bus during a routine inspection in Bhubaneswar after discovering that it was operating without a valid fitness certificate. The bus, which was travelling from Cuttack to Berhampur, was intercepted and taken into custody as part of the ongoing enforcement drive.

The Odisha government expects the stricter enforcement policy to improve compliance with transport regulations, reduce the number of unsafe vehicles on the roads and strengthen overall road safety for commuters across the state.
