  KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • Puri Police has issued separate traffic and parking plans for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

  • Devotees have been urged to follow traffic diversions and cooperate with police personnel.

PURI: With thousands of devotees expected to visit the Jagannath Temple for Devasnan Purnima, Puri Police has released a comprehensive Puri Devasnan Purnima traffic advisory to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety. Special parking arrangements and diversion plans have been made for vehicles arriving from Bhubaneswar, Brahmagiri and Konark.

Authorities have advised visitors to plan their journey in advance and use only the designated parking areas, as parking will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Puri Devasnan Purnima Traffic Advisory: Parking Plan for Vehicles

Two-wheelers travelling from Bhubaneswar, Brahmagiri or Konark for darshan will be allowed up to Market Chhak. Parking will initially be available at the Municipal Market Complex and, after it reaches capacity, at Old Jagannath Ballav. Return routes have also been specified to prevent congestion.

For four-wheelers, dedicated parking facilities have been arranged at New JBPC Parking, Jail Road Parking, Sharadhabali Parking, Blue Flag Beach Parking, Hotel Neelachal Ashok Parking, Talabania Parking and ITI Parking, depending on vehicle entry routes and parking availability.

Important parking and traffic arrangements include:

  • Two-wheelers: Park at the Municipal Market Complex or Old Jagannath Ballav after reaching Market Chhak.
  • Four-wheelers: Follow designated parking routes based on the direction of arrival, with alternate parking locations activated once primary lots are full.
  • Sea beach visitors: Vehicles visiting only the beach will be directed to separate parking areas to reduce congestion around the Jagannath Temple.

Separate routes have also been earmarked for devotees visiting only the sea beach to minimise interference with temple-bound traffic.

Why the Puri Devasnan Purnima Traffic Advisory Matters

Devasnan Purnima is one of the most important annual rituals associated with Lord Jagannath and attracts a massive influx of devotees from across Odisha and other states. Efficient traffic management is essential to reduce congestion, improve emergency access and ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims.

The second-order impact of the advisory is expected to include better crowd management, shorter travel delays and enhanced public safety during the festival. By directing vehicles through designated routes and parking zones, authorities aim to minimise traffic bottlenecks around the temple and nearby tourist areas.

Puri Police has appealed to all devotees to strictly follow the notified routes, park only in authorised locations and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of Devasnan Purnima celebrations.
