NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi on Wayanad landslide statement came after a landslide struck a tunnel construction site in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday, leaving three people dead and several others missing. Expressing grief over the tragedy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha appealed to Congress and United Democratic Front (UDF) workers to assist the state administration in relief and rescue operations.

The incident occurred at the Kalladi-Anakkampoyil tunnel construction site in Meppadi, where rescue teams continue efforts to locate those still trapped.

Rahul Gandhi on Wayanad Landslide Calls for Relief Support

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi described the incident as deeply distressing and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

He said his thoughts and prayers were with everyone affected and noted that rescue operations were underway to reach those trapped. Gandhi appealed to Congress and UDF workers to extend every possible assistance during the emergency.

He also said Wayanad had demonstrated resilience during previous disasters and expressed confidence that the community would stand together to support affected families once again.

Wayanad Landslide Leaves Three Dead, Seven Still Missing

According to the district administration, 18 workers were caught in the landslide near Meenakshi Bridge at the Kalladi-Anakkampoyil tunnel construction site, disrupting traffic on the Meppadi-Chooralmala road.

Of them, nine injured workers were admitted to Meppadi WIMS Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that three people died, while search teams continue looking for seven missing persons.

Rahul Gandhi also expressed condolences to families affected by heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh.

In another message, he described the widespread destruction and loss of lives caused by torrential rains as heartbreaking. He urged Congress workers to assist local administrations and appealed to residents to follow official advisories and remain alert until weather conditions improve.

Rain-related incidents have also claimed lives in Maharashtra. According to officials, at least five people died in separate incidents across Pune district over the past two days, including fatalities caused by a landslide, a wall collapse and a person being swept away by strong water currents.

Rescue and relief operations continue in the affected regions as authorities monitor the impact of heavy rainfall and respond to emergencies.
