Barabanki: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday launched 82 development projects worth more than ₹542 crore in Barabanki and used the occasion to mount a sharp political attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress. Addressing a public gathering, he accused the two parties of pursuing policies that, according to him, ignored development and India’s cultural heritage.

The Chief Minister said the state’s progress was linked to infrastructure development, public welfare and the preservation of cultural traditions, while also highlighting the BJP government’s achievements in governance and economic growth.

Yogi Adityanath Criticises SP and Congress

During his speech, Adityanath alleged that previous governments treated the construction of boundary walls around graveyards as a symbol of secularism while neglecting religious and public development projects.

He claimed that initiatives associated with temples, including the Mahadeva Temple in Barabanki, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, were not supported because they were viewed as communal.

The Chief Minister also accused the SP and Congress of being “anti-Sanatan” and said the country’s future depended on preserving Sanatan Dharma. He further alleged that restrictions on religious events such as the Kanwar Yatra, Janmashtami, Ram Navami processions and Durga Puja celebrations had become hallmarks of previous governments.

The Opposition parties had not issued an immediate response to these allegations at the time of reporting.

Chief Minister Highlights Development and Law-and-Order Initiatives

Adityanath contrasted the current government’s law-and-order record with previous administrations, saying Uttar Pradesh had witnessed significant improvements in public safety.

He pointed to the establishment of BrahMos missile production in Lucknow as an example of the state’s industrial and defence-sector progress, while claiming that criminal activities that once affected traders had declined under the present administration.

The Chief Minister also accused the previous SP government of financial irregularities in major infrastructure projects, including:

  • Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow.
  • Purvanchal Expressway.
  • Gomti Riverfront Development Project.

He alleged that these projects suffered from cost overruns or remained incomplete before the BJP government took over.

Welfare Schemes and Economic Growth in Focus

Highlighting the BJP government’s welfare initiatives, Adityanath said public funds were being utilised for schemes such as scholarships, financial assistance for girls’ marriages, farmer welfare programmes, housing projects and health insurance.

He also said Uttar Pradesh had emerged as one of India’s leading state economies, supported by investments in infrastructure, flood-control measures and river rejuvenation projects.

Referring to Barabanki’s strategic location between Lucknow and Ayodhya, the Chief Minister said the district would continue to benefit from development under the State Capital Region plan. He expressed confidence that ongoing investments would accelerate economic growth and improve public infrastructure across the region.
