Youth Congress Stages Protest Outside Odisha Dy CM’s Residence Over Balanga Girl Burning Case

Published on

Bhubaneswar: Tension escalated outside the official residence of Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Saturday, as Youth Congress workers launched a protest demanding justice for the 16-year-old girl from Balanga who was brutally set on fire by unidentified miscreants in the Nimapada constituency.

Youth Congress Demands Justice and Accountability

Led by Pradesh Youth Congress President Ranjit Patra, the demonstrators staged a sit-in protest, raising slogans like “Justice for Women,” “Stop Atrocities Against Women,” and “Pravati Parida Resign.” The protest was eventually broken up by police, and all participants were detained from the site.

Visit to AIIMS and Criticism of Deputy CM

Earlier in the day, a Youth Congress delegation visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where the victim is undergoing treatment for 75% burn injuries. Speaking to the media, Ranjit Patra accused Deputy CM Pravati Parida of neglecting her responsibilities in her own constituency and criticised her for failing to ensure women’s safety. He demanded a ₹2 crore compensation for the victim’s family and called for the immediate arrest and strict punishment of the culprits.

Political Leaders Slam BJP’s Inaction

Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bhubaneswar, Sayad Yasir Nawaz, also condemned the BJP government, accusing it of breaking its promises to women voters. He pointed out that although the Deputy CM frequently speaks about women’s safety, she has yet to visit the victim or her family. Nawaz appealed to women’s groups and the public to raise their voices against what he called the BJP’s failure to protect women.

Protesters Demand Action, Not Words

Several prominent Youth Congress members, including Mohammad Imdad, Manoj Biswal, Nihar Behera, Mohammad Gulfam, Sudip Samal, Ranjit Senapati, Suraj Raut, Bubu Jena, Niazul Islam, and Aryan Sasmal, participated in the protest. Their demonstration has added political intensity to an already emotional and widely condemned incident.

The burning of the minor girl has triggered statewide outrage, with citizens and political groups alike demanding swift justice and accountability.
