NEW DELHI: The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls will not require additional documentation from voters whose names already appear in the existing electoral roll, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has clarified. The announcement comes amid public concerns over documentation requirements during the nationwide voter verification exercise.
According to the Commission, existing electors only need to verify their personal details and submit the Enumeration Form. If the information matches the electoral database, no further documents will be required.
Special Intensive Revision: Existing Voters Exempt from Additional Documents
The Election Commission said the verification process has been simplified for voters who are already registered.
Officials explained that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will verify the information provided in the Enumeration Form against the existing electoral records. Where the details match, the verification will be completed without asking for any supporting documents.
However, if there is a mismatch in records or officials are unable to verify the information, electors may be asked to produce relevant documents to complete the process.
House-to-House Verification Underway Across the Country
As part of the Special Intensive Revision, Booth Level Officers are conducting house-to-house verification to update the electoral database.
The Commission has appealed to voters to cooperate with BLOs during the exercise and ensure that their personal and family details are correctly recorded. Accurate information will help minimise errors in the final electoral roll.
Revision Aims to Improve Accuracy of Electoral Rolls
The Special Intensive Revision is intended to improve the quality of electoral rolls by removing duplicate, deceased and otherwise ineligible entries while ensuring that every eligible citizen remains enrolled.
After the verification process is completed, the Election Commission will consider claims and objections before publishing the final electoral roll. The Commission has reiterated that the revision is aimed at maintaining accurate and transparent voter records while protecting the voting rights of eligible electors.
