JioHotstar Launches in Canada, UK and Singapore

Mumbai: JioHotstar international launch has expanded the streaming platform beyond India, with the service now available in the UK, Canada and Singapore. The platform is offering more than 160,000 hours of content across more than 12 Asian languages, covering Indian films, television shows, regional programming, originals, reality shows, kids content and anime.

The launch also introduces interactive features and new subscription options for audiences in the three markets. JioHotstar said it plans to add more than 30,000 hours of fresh content every year across the platform.

The international rollout extends the platform’s presence beyond India, where it has more than 500 million active users.

JioHotstar International Launch Brings Indian Content Abroad

The international catalogue includes Hotstar Specials and originals such as Asur, Pritam & Pedro, Special Ops, Criminal Justice, Heartbeat and Resort.

The film catalogue includes titles such as Dhurandhar, 12th Fail, Chhichhore, Kesari Chapter 2 and Kill.

Content from JioStar’s television network will also be available. Viewers can access programmes from Star Plus, Colors, Star Vijay, Asianet, Star Jalsha and Star Pravah.

Audiences in Singapore and Canada will get early access to selected television shows before their TV broadcast, while viewers in the UK will be able to watch popular programmes alongside their television broadcasts.

Bigg Boss Gets Interactive Features Overseas

One of the major interactive features of the international launch is the expansion of Bigg Boss.

The reality show will be available in six languages, with viewers in the UK, Canada and Singapore able to participate in live voting across different editions.

Subscribers in the UK and Canada will also have access to a 24-hour live feed. In Canada, viewers will additionally be able to watch Bigg Boss Hindi seven days before its television broadcast.

JioHotstar will also introduce India Ka Top 1 Per cent, a new game show hosted by Anil Kapoor, in Canada and Singapore.

The service will be available on mobile devices and connected TVs. Subtitles and dubbing will be offered across more than 12 Asian languages.

Existing Hotstar subscribers will move to equivalent JioHotstar plans using their existing credentials. In the UK, existing customers can continue with their monthly subscriptions as long as auto-renewal remains active.

JioHotstar Plans and Content Expansion

The company said the international service is designed to offer more than a large content catalogue. It is also bringing interactive features intended to give audiences a greater role in how they engage with programmes.

Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business at JioStar, said the company sees an opportunity to build for a wider global audience interested in Indian entertainment and cultures beyond their own.

The platform’s international expansion combines Indian films and television with regional-language programming, originals, interactive entertainment and personalised viewing features.

With the addition of the UK, Canada and Singapore, JioHotstar is extending its Indian streaming ecosystem into three overseas markets while maintaining a strong focus on multilingual content and audience participation.
