Youth20 Summit First meeting in Guwahati from 6th to 8th February

New Delhi: As India hosts the Youth20 Summit (Y20) for the first time on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the first meeting of the Y20 will be held in Guwahati from February 6 to 8, 2023. This is the first of various meetings to be held on five themes Y20 across India ahead of the final Youth20 summit in August 2023.

More than 250 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the three-day event in Assam. It will focus on five Future of Work themes; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Peace building and reconciliation; Youth in democracy and health, well-being and sport.

Youth20 summit is one of the eight official interest groups under the G20 umbrella. The rotating presidency of the G20 is responsible for organizing a youth summit, usually held a few weeks before the traditional forum, to know what young people think and incorporate their suggestions into its own policy proposals. It is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.

The Y20 Summit in India in 2023 will exemplify India’s youth-focused efforts and provide an opportunity to showcase its values ​​and policy actions to youth around the world.

To create a participatory and inclusive reflection process ahead of the Y20 meeting, more than 50 universities and colleges across 34 districts of Assam will organize seminars, workshops, debates and panel discussions on their campuses from January 19 to the inaugural meeting.

More than 12,000 college students are expected to attend these events. Each higher education institution will also organize an awareness event in 10 surrounding schools to increase schools’ awareness of the G-20 grouping and functioning.

The main event at IIT-Guwahati on February 7, 2023 will be attended by 400 participants including competition award winners from various participating universities/colleges who will be properly mentored to understand the interface between innovation and industry and academia.

They will also get the opportunity to interact with international youth delegates and exchange ideas for a common future.
