Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Applies for MLA Pension in Rajasthan

Published on

Former Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has formally applied for the resumption of his pension as a former legislator in Rajasthan, officials confirmed. Dhankhar, who represented the Kishangarh Assembly constituency as a Congress MLA between 1993 and 1998, had been receiving pension benefits until July 2019. The payments were discontinued after he took charge as the Governor of West Bengal.

Jagdeep Dhankhar Pension: Application Filed After Resignation as Vice President

Dhankhar’s tenure as Vice President ended following his resignation on July 21, citing health concerns. After stepping down, he submitted a request to the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat to restart his pension as a former MLA. Officials said that the process has been initiated and the pension will be reinstated from the date his resignation was officially accepted.

Background of Dhankhar’s Political Career

Jagdeep Dhankhar has had a long and diverse political journey. Before serving as Vice President, he was the Governor of West Bengal and earlier represented Kishangarh in the Rajasthan Assembly. His pension as an MLA was discontinued in 2019 when he assumed gubernatorial responsibilities, as per rules that bar dual benefits.

Jagdeep Dhankhar Pension Entitlement and Amount

Under Rajasthan’s pension rules, a former MLA receives ₹35,000 per month for a single term. The amount increases with additional terms and also includes an age-based increment. Since Dhankhar is now 74 years old, he qualifies for a 20% hike, making him eligible for a monthly pension of ₹42,000.

Assembly Secretariat Confirms Pension Process

According to the Rajasthan Assembly Secretariat, Dhankhar’s application has been processed and pension disbursement will begin shortly. The officials emphasized that the benefits will be calculated from the date of his resignation acceptance, ensuring no lapses in entitlement.
