Ganja Worth ₹30 Lakh Seized At Rourkela Railway Station

Published on

Rourkela: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized ganja valued at approximately ₹30 lakh from the parcel warehouse of Rourkela Railway Station on Thursday. The narcotics, packed in two large sacks, were reportedly being readied for smuggling to New Delhi.

Ganja Seized At Rourkela Railway Station During Surprise Raid

Acting on a tip-off, GRP officials conducted a surprise inspection around 2 PM inside the station’s parcel warehouse. During the raid, officers found two sacks filled with ganja that had been booked earlier in the day for dispatch to Delhi via the Sambalpur–Jammu Tawi Express.

Smuggling Attempt Foiled Before Loading Onto Train

According to police sources, the prompt operation prevented the consignment from being loaded onto the train. The seized contraband has been sent for verification, while investigators are working to trace the individuals and networks involved in the smuggling operation.

Odisha Police Intensify Crackdown On Narcotics Trade

The ganja seized at Rourkela Railway Station comes just a day after a major recovery in Malkangiri district, where police confiscated cannabis worth crores of rupees from multiple locations. Authorities said the recent busts highlight a strong crackdown on inter-state narcotics trafficking across Odisha.
