Maha Ashtami 2022: PM Modi Greets Everyone on Maha Ashtami

Maha Ashtami 2022: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted everyone on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami. The Prime Minister said that on Durga Puja, May the blessings of Maa Mahagauri bring fortune, prosperity and success in everyone’s life. Shri Modi also shared recital of prayers (stuti) of Maa Mahagauri.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said;

“वन्दे वाञ्छितकामार्थं चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखराम्।

सिंहारूढां चतुर्भुजां महागौरीं यशस्वीनीम्॥

On Occasion of Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami is one of the most auspicious days of the five days long Durga Puja Festival. The festival is observed for 9 days in Hindu households where as the actual puja that takes place in the Puja pandals is held a period of long 5 days. Durga Puja celebration, which takes place on the third day of Festivals is also known as Maha Ashtami. It is among the most auspicious days of the 5-day Puja festivities.

According to Hindu mythology, Devi Durga is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri, highlighted PM Modi. It falls on the Ashtami tithi in the month of Karthik as per the Hindu Panchang.

Before commences Maha Ashtami, Saptami puja is the day when the battle commences between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura, who is a demon king. The festival of Durga Puja is the celebration of the victory of the Goddess over the demon king.

As per the Hindu mythology, the world was under the threat of the evil, Mahishasura who could not be defeated by any man or god. However, all the gods came together and collected their energies to give rise to Maa Durga, the ten-handed goddess who had one of the destructive weapons from each god.
