Bhubaneswar : Paradip Port with a bang as the PPA team closed 2022 by achieving the highest ever monthly cargo throughput in the history of any major port in the country with a record cargo handling of 12.6 MMT in December 2022.

Shri P.L. Haranadh, Chairman PPA congratulated the PPA team for this great performance. New Year 2023 will be a good omen for the port as it is all set to cross the coveted mark of 100 MMT of cargo handling in January itself. The port is poised to set a record cargo handling of more than 125 MMT in the current fiscal. By December 2022, PPA handled cargo of 96.81 MMT as against 83.6 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Various system improvement measures implemented by the port during this year have boosted growth by up to 15.5% compared to last year. The handling of Coastal Thermal Coal has shown a remarkable 58.11% increase compared to the previous fiscal and also accounts for about 31.56% of the total volume of cargo handled at the port.

Paradip Port is becoming the country’s coastal shipping hub and even has plans for coastal shipping of thermal coal to power houses in Rajasthan, UP and Haryana.
