PM Modi Inaugurates ₹8,070 Crore Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line in Mizoram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Aizawl on Saturday to inaugurate the ₹8,070 crore Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge railway line, a landmark project that connects landlocked Mizoram to the rest of India by rail.
He landed at Lengpui Airport at 9:10 AM, but due to adverse weather conditions, could not proceed to Țhuampui Helipad. The inauguration was instead conducted via video conference from the airport.
PM Modi Mizoram Visit: Railway Line and Rajdhani Express Launched
During the visit, PM Modi flagged off the first Rajdhani Express between Aizawl and Delhi, boosting direct connectivity of the northeastern state to the national capital.
He also inaugurated two more train services—Aizawl-Guwahati Express and Aizawl-Kolkata Express, enhancing regional travel and trade links.
₹9,000 Crore Projects for Mizoram’s Growth
Apart from the railway line, the Prime Minister laid foundation stones for projects worth over ₹9,000 crore. These include:
- 45 km Aizawl Bypass Road
- 30 TMTPA Gas Bottling Plant
- Multiple road infrastructure projects across Mizoram
These projects aim to strengthen connectivity, energy security, and economic development in the state.
Focus on Education and Tribal Welfare
PM Modi also inaugurated a residential school at Kawrthah in Mamit district and an Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam in Aizawl.
These institutions are part of the government’s commitment to improve education and provide opportunities for children in aspirational and tribal districts.
PM Modi to Visit Manipur After Mizoram
After attending the public meeting in Aizawl, the Prime Minister will head to Churachandpur, Manipur. This marks his first visit to Manipur after the May 2023 ethnic violence, which claimed over 250 lives.
The visit is seen as significant for both development and peace-building efforts in the northeastern region.
