In a special letter addressed to young citizens and volunteers of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), the Prime Minister praised India’s “Can Do” spirit and encouraged first-time voters to register and spread awareness about electoral participation.

He emphasised that democracy becomes stronger when young people step forward with responsibility and confidence.

75 Years of India’s Electoral Journey

The Prime Minister highlighted that India is marking 75 years since its first General Election held in 1951.

He described the electoral process as a “festival of democracy” and reaffirmed India’s stature as the world’s largest democracy and the “Mother of Democracy.”

The milestone, he said, reflects the strength and continuity of India’s constitutional values.

First-Time Voters Should Be Celebrated

Focusing on new voters, Modi said registering to vote should be treated as a proud life milestone.

He urged families, schools, colleges and communities to celebrate when young citizens become voters, as it would deepen democratic awareness at the grassroots.

According to him, such recognition strengthens civic participation and engagement among future generations.

Voting Is a Sacred Right and Civic Duty

The Prime Minister said voting is not merely an entitlement but a sacred constitutional responsibility.

He noted that the indelible ink mark on the finger symbolises honour, commitment and participation in Bharat’s progress.

Mann Ki Baat Reinforces Voter as “Soul of Democracy”

Modi repeated these sentiments in his Mann Ki Baat address, where he described the voter as the true soul of democracy.

He reminded citizens that voting is not only a right but a civic duty that sustains the democratic foundation of India.

MY Bharat अभियान: “First Vote. First Responsibility. First Pride.”

Taking the Prime Minister’s call forward, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that MY Bharat volunteers would work to make first-time voting a nationwide celebration.

He promoted the slogan, “First Vote. First Responsibility. First Pride.”

The initiative aims to mobilise youth participation across the country.

Nationwide Events Under “MY Bharat, MY Vote” Theme

As part of National Voters’ Day observance, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised activities across states, union territories and districts under the theme “MY Bharat, MY Vote.”

These programmes were designed to encourage informed, ethical and inclusive participation among young citizens.

Mandaviya led celebrations in Karaikal, urging youth to register as voters, while Minister of State Raksha Nikhil Khadse participated in events in Amritsar, interacting with volunteers and first-time voters.

Strengthening Democracy Through Youth Engagement

The nationwide programme reflects a larger effort to strengthen India’s democratic fabric by ensuring more youth join the electoral process with pride and awareness.

National Voters’ Day 2026 serves as a reminder that the future of democracy depends on the participation, responsibility and enthusiasm of young voters.
