Bhubaneswar: The Odisha low-pressure system has weakened after bringing heavy rainfall to several parts of the state over the past few days. The system was located over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas at 5.30 am on Saturday and is expected to move towards the south-southwest direction during the next 24 hours.

The associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to about 9.4 km above mean sea level. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is continuing to monitor the system and its associated circulation.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar and Puri received fresh spells of heavy rain on Saturday morning.

Odisha Low Pressure Weakens, IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Although the low-pressure system has weakened, rainfall activity continues in parts of Odisha.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in five districts—Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput.

Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert as heavy rainfall could affect normal activities in some areas.

Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning in Odisha

Apart from the heavy-rainfall warning, the weather department has issued a yellow warning for lightning and thunderstorms in 14 districts for Saturday.

The combination of rain, lightning and thunderstorms could lead to temporary disruption of outdoor activities and local travel.

People are advised to follow weather alerts and take appropriate precautions during thunderstorms.

Rainfall Activity Expected to Decrease From Sunday

According to the weather forecast provided in the source, the intensity of heavy rainfall is expected to subside across Odisha from Sunday.

However, the regional meteorological department has issued another yellow warning for 13 districts for lightning and thunderstorms on Sunday.

The weakening of the low-pressure system is therefore expected to reduce the heavy-rainfall activity, but unsettled weather conditions may continue in several parts of the state.

The IMD will continue to monitor the movement of the system and associated cyclonic circulation as weather conditions develop over Odisha.
