In a tragic incident near the Tajpur beach on the Odisha–West Bengal border, three tourists were swept away by strong sea currents while bathing on Tuesday morning. The spot, located in Balasore district’s Jaleshwar area, witnessed a swift rescue operation by local authorities.
According to officials, two individuals were rescued by a speedboat dispatched after emergency alerts were raised. However, one of the rescued youths was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The second is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.
The third tourist is still unaccounted for, and search and rescue operations are ongoing. Local authorities, along with rescue teams, are combing the area to trace the missing individual.
While the identities of the three youths are yet to be officially confirmed, preliminary reports suggest they are from Barasat in West Bengal and had visited the beach as part of a leisure trip.
Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution and follow safety advisories when venturing into the sea, especially during the monsoon season, when the water currents are unpredictable and strong.
