Banks Closed on April 14 for Ambedkar Jayanti Holiday, Tamil New Year and Baisakhi

Mumbai: According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will be closed in most parts of the country on Friday, April 14, 2023, for various festivities and celebrations. As per the RBI, banks will be closed on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba, Vaisakhi or Baisakhi, Tamil New Year’s Day, and Maha Bisubha Sankranti

The places where banks will be shut on Friday are Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad-Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad-Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram, as per the list published by the regulator.

Banks in Tripura, Assam, Kerala, Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh will likewise be closed on April 15, 2023, in observance of Vishu, Bohag Bihu, Himachal Day, and Bengali New Year.

Every year, the Reserve Bank of India declares the holidays for lenders in three categories: the Negotiable Instruments Act Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. On certain declared holidays, all banks in the country, including the public and private sectors, foreign banks, cooperative banks, and regional banks, are closed.

Please keep in mind that bank holidays vary from area to region. Furthermore, commercial and public sector banks across the country are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has also mandated that banks remain closed on Sundays.
