Rohit Sharma Keeps Mumbai Cricket Body Waiting On Vijay Hazare Decision

Published on

Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is still awaiting official communication from Rohit Sharma regarding his participation in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025, despite earlier reports suggesting the Indian skipper had confirmed his availability.

A senior MCA official told PTI that no formal message had been received from Rohit so far.

“There has been no communication as far as I am aware,” the official said.

Tournament Schedule And Venues

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is scheduled to be played across Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jaipur, and Bengaluru from December 25 to January 18, with the knockout matches set to take place at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Mumbai’s campaign begins on December 24, though Rohit’s participation remains uncertain. The tournament provides a rare domestic one-day window between India’s ODI series against South Africa (December 3–9) and New Zealand (starting January 11).

Rohit recently showcased top form, scoring a match-winning 121 not out against Australia, following a fluent 73 in the second game of the series. Although India lost the series 1–2, Rohit was named Player of the Series for his consistent batting display.

He has been training at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) under the MCA setup, joined briefly by Yashasvi Jaiswal before the young opener departed for the India vs South Africa Test series in Kolkata.

Future Plans And Team Uncertainty

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from Tests and T20Is but are expected to feature in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against South Africa, beginning November 30 in Ranchi. The second and third ODIs will be held in Raipur (December 3) and Visakhapatnam (December 6) respectively.

Meanwhile, Kohli’s participation in Delhi’s Vijay Hazare campaign remains unclear. Sources said the veteran batter, currently residing in London, has yet to inform the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) of his decision.
