Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das blamed the BJP-led state government for failing to ensure safety for women in educational institutions. “She brought petrol, and no one acted. It reflects the complete failure of the administration,” Das said. The bandh has the support of Left-aligned parties and civil society groups.
Arrests Made, CM Announces ₹20 Lakh Ex Gratia
Authorities have since arrested the college principal and the Head of the Education Department for their alleged negligence. In response to public outrage, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced ₹20 lakh compensation to the deceased student’s family and ordered a comprehensive investigation.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a “stark reminder” of the need to protect students on campuses.
