BHUBANESWAR: The NSE BFSI Skill Programme has been introduced by the Odisha Higher Education Department to strengthen financial literacy and improve employability among college students. Implemented under the National Skill Development Mission in partnership with the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSEIL), the initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements in the banking and financial services sector.

The programme is expected to provide students with practical knowledge of financial markets and professional skills that are increasingly valued by employers in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) industry.

NSE BFSI Skill Programme to Offer Industry-Focused Training

According to the official notification issued on July 15, 2026, students enrolled in B.Com, BBA, BMS, BA (Economics and Commerce), MBA and M.Com courses will be eligible to participate in a 30-hour professional certificate course on mutual funds.

In addition to mutual funds, the training will introduce students to essential concepts related to:

  • Stock markets
  • Banking services
  • Insurance
  • Financial transactions
  • Investment awareness

The programme will be offered free of cost, enabling students to acquire industry-recognised knowledge without additional financial burden.

First Phase to Cover 97 Institutions Across Odisha

The Higher Education Department has instructed universities and colleges to appoint a Nodal Officer, preferably from the Commerce, Management or Economics department, to coordinate the implementation of the programme.

In the initial phase, the initiative will be introduced in 97 selected institutions located within a 100-kilometre radius of:

  • Bhubaneswar
  • Berhampur
  • Bhadrak
  • Dhenkanal
  • Jeypore
  • Kendrapara
  • Keonjhar
  • Rourkela
  • Sambalpur

The phased rollout is intended to ensure effective coordination before expanding the programme to more educational institutions across the state.

NSE BFSI Skill Programme Aims to Strengthen Career Readiness

Officials said the initiative is designed to equip students with practical financial knowledge and industry-relevant skills that can improve employment prospects in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector. By combining academic education with professional training, the programme seeks to prepare graduates for evolving opportunities in India’s growing financial services industry
