KATAK: The Mahanadi flood update indicates that continuous rainfall across Odisha has significantly raised water levels in the state’s major rivers, with the Mahanadi witnessing heavy flood discharge. As of 9 AM, approximately 5.50 lakh cusecs of floodwater was flowing through Mundali Barrage, prompting authorities to tighten safety measures in vulnerable areas.

With river levels remaining high, the Katak district administration has appealed to residents to avoid riverbanks and strictly follow official advisories to prevent accidents.

Mahanadi Flood Update, High Water Discharge Recorded

According to official data, the upstream water level at Mundali Barrage stood at 88.20 feet, while the downstream level was 86.00 feet.

At Naraj Barrage, around 2.77 lakh cusecs of floodwater was being released. The upstream water level reached 25.55 metres, while the downstream level was recorded at 22.25 metres.

The sustained discharge reflects the impact of continuous rainfall across the Mahanadi river basin and the need to regulate water flow through major barrages.

Katak Administration Issues Safety Restrictions

In view of the rising river levels, the Katak district administration has imposed several precautionary restrictions to safeguard public safety.

Fishermen have been prohibited from entering Mundali Barrage, the Mahanadi and its distributaries. Authorities have also banned:

  • Fishing in the Mahanadi, its tributaries and adjoining water bodies.
  • Boating and swimming in the river.
  • Bathing near barrages and riverbanks.
  • Taking selfies or gathering near flood-affected areas.

Officials have urged fishermen and residents to stay away from the river until water levels recede and restrictions are lifted.

Mahanadi Flood Update Keeps Authorities on High Alert

With heavy rainfall continuing across Odisha, officials are closely monitoring river levels and flood conditions. Disaster management teams remain on alert as the administration continues to assess the situation and implement precautionary measures to minimise risks in vulnerable areas.
