Odisha Police Bust Fake Currency Racket in Balangir, 2 Arrested

Bhubaneswar: A counterfeit currency racket was uncovered in Odisha’s Balangir district today, with the Special Task Force (STF) seizing fake notes worth ₹49,000, informed STF DIG Pinak Mishra on Thursday. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

The accused have been identified as 45-year-old Mohd Sabir from Raghunathpada under Titlagarh Police Station and 44-year-old Netra Raut from Sikir in the Titlagarh area.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the STF, in collaboration with Balangir District Police, intercepted an illegal operation involving Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) on the Bolangir-Titlagarh road near Sikir village under the jurisdiction of Titlagarh Police. A raid was conducted, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

During the search, counterfeit currency amounting to ₹49,000 and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession.

A case has been registered at Titlagarh Police Station under Case No. 127 dated 09.04.2025, under Sections 178, 179, 180, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
